in the wake of walter benjamin's 'unfinished' thinking structures, this volume operates through contiguous directions, transitions and regressions, incorporating images as part of the discussion of a ruinous visuality. its polycentric mesh covers a wide range of art, writing, photography and film: from ritual uses of the 'darksome' and its legacies in pre-hispanic cultures to colonial religious iconography of penitential blindness; from narco-noir in the novels of roberto bola o and yuri herrera to techno-noir in dystopian border films; from the quotidian taxonomy of horror expurgated in art practice to the haunted 'other darkness' of the photographic blink. it also explores how we can contest the threat of dark ecology and 'horrorism' through sense expansion within new media and by positing fruitful blind spots in text and art.

(来源indie) (2)the essays in this volume are concerned with early printed narrative texts in western europe. the aim of this book is to consider to what extent the shift from hand-written to printed books left its mark on narrative literature in a number of vernacular languages. did the advent of printing bring about changes in the corpus of narrative texts when compared with the corpus extant in manuscript copies? did narrative texts that already existed in manuscript form undergo significant modifications when they began to be printed? how did this crucial media development affect the nature of these narratives? which strategies did early printers develop to make their texts commercially attractive? which social classes were the target audiences for their editions? around half of the articles focus on developments in the history of early printed narrative texts, others discuss publication strategies. this book provides an impetus for cross-linguistic research. it invites scholars from various disciplines to get involved in an international conversation about fifteenth- and sixteenth-century narrative literature.
reflections: the american collection of the columbus museum of art adds a novel and provocative element to the library of art museum collection catalogs. in the traditional manner, reflections features selected works—more than 125—from the museum’s collection, accompanied by concise essays by scholars of art who reflect on and respond to the distinctive aspects of each work.
to this customary approach, the editors have added what they term intersections essays: an examination of a well-known work of art from the differing perspectives of two authors—most of whom are not art historians. for instance, acclaimed writer joyce carol oates provides her perspective on george bellows and is joined by laurie bellows booth, an objects conservator and the painter’s granddaughter. the book includes ten of these compelling essays, including contributions by such authors as adam gopnik and alan trachtenberg.
